This screen, made by Sony is 80μm thick. That’s roughly ten times the size of a red blood cell or a fraction thinner than a human hair. Showing off one of the main advantaged of OLED technology, Sony demonstrates a world first – streaming video on this 4.1 inch display whilst rolling it up. The screen features a resolution of 423 x 240 and a contrast ratio of 1,000:1. Forget 3DTV I want BenDTV! This is the future!

May 22nd, 2010 No comments

Robotics is cool, so are the plethora of robots that the world’s leading scientists, engineers and designers have created to date. Until today, this little beauty had slipped through my net. This is the most impressive demonstration of what a robot is capable of that I personally have ever seen. Watch LittleDog learn it’s way across multiple complicated terrains with eerily organic movement. Bring on the true RoboDogs!

Google celebrates PAC-MAN’s birthday with playable logo

May 21st, 2010 No comments

PAC-MAN was born on 22 May 1980 in Japan. To mark the game’s 30th birthday, Google has replaced their ever-evolving logo with a playable Google-themed game. Simply hit the ‘Insert Coin’ button and play away. If you fancy having a friend join in hit the ‘Insert Coin’ button again and play away with Ms PAC-MAN by your side. Apparently this entire logo was designed by two employees at Google – good work!

This is the most disturbing thing I think I may have ever seen. Keep watching to witness the epic 911 call! According to The Onion, this new Google service will provide heavily subsidised phone costs and is due out…well whenever we deem it acceptable.

UK iPad on 28 May £429-£699

May 7th, 2010 No comments

Apple announced today that the iPad will be available in the UK and in various other international territories on 28 May. Pricing is expectedly inflated and pans out as follows:

WiFi only models
16GB – £429
32GB – £499
64GB – £599

WiFi & 3G  models
16GB – £529
32GB – £599
64GB – £699

Surprisingly, the press released also notes that the iBookstore will be available as a free download from the App Store on 28 May. This may indicate that Apple has managed to resolve any outstanding international licence issues with publishers, but there is currently no word on how many books will be available or what publishers have signed up for UK (and international) sales via the iBookstore. Here’s hoping the library is the same as that across the pond.

Google Chrome vs the speed of sound, lightening and a potato

May 5th, 2010 No comments

Earlier this week somebody silly from Yahoo said that Google was only known for search and that they needed to diversity in order to be successful… Don’t worry the rest of the internet had to read that twice too. Here is a prime example of how wrong Mrs. Yahoo was as Google demonstrates that Chrome is faster than sound, and fries. Lightening?
