Samsung Galaxy Note – Now this looks like competition

September 7th, 2011 No comments

Samsung has unveiled its latest contender in the smartphone battle, the Samsung Galaxy Note.

The Galaxy Note is equipped with the world’s first 5.3-inch HD Super AMOLED Display (WXGA 1280×800, 285ppi). It sports a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, 8MP camera with LED flash and a 2MP camera on the front.

No word yet on battery life but if it can live up to the hype of the video below count this Apple fiend impressed.

Samsung Infuse 4G: An Android phone worthy of your attention

January 5th, 2011 No comments

Whether you’re an iOS or Android fanboy, this Android handset by Samsung is worthy of your attention. Sporting a beautiful looking 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus (wow, rename it already) screen and a 1.2GHz processor, the fastest of any Android phone to date, this handset looks set to buck the trend of ugly, cheap Android handsets.

So is there a catch? Well, probably. Samsung has overlaid its own UI over the stock Android one, which will obviously come down to personal taste, but from experience with Samsung phones is unlikely to add much. There’s also the issue of battery life. If this bad-boy is running with a processor akin to that found in some netbooks I’m not entirely sure how “mobile”, as in not plugged into the wall, this device will be.

Either way, keep an eye out for this one. At least it looks pretty.

Fring introduces Dynamic Video Quality video calling

There are many chat applications available for iOS devices but few are able to compile the myriad of chat services as seamlessly and elegantly as Fring.

Having the ability to compile your address book, Live Messenger, Google Talk, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo and AIM contacts into a single App may sound a little chaotic, however Fring brings one huge benefit. Video calling over either 3G of WiFi.

Fring has maintained a place on my iPhone for several years now and whilst several Apps are currently available on the App Store that offer theabihlity to make ideo calls over 3G (I’m thinking about you Tango), Fring is the only service to provide dynamic video calling, automatically adjusting video quality in line with signal strength.

Playstation Phone spotted in the wild

December 4th, 2010 No comments

Over the past week rumours have begun to solidify that Sony is set to announce a Playstation Phone under it’s Sony Ericsson umbrella “soon”. In fact, yesterday some rather shaky footage appeared online purportedly showing the device in the hands of an unknown.

Hot on the heels of that rather unconvincing footage was the above. Released literally hours ago, the video appears to show a new Sony Ericsson device, “Zeus/Z1″ sporting the new Gingerbread version of Android. If you look closely enough at the menu screen there is also a rather familiar Playstation logo which, as demonstrated by the video below, would appear to launch the Playstation App.

Google want to whisper ads down your ear

May 18th, 2010 No comments

This is the most disturbing thing I think I may have ever seen. Keep watching to witness the epic 911 call! According to The Onion, this new Google service will provide heavily subsidised phone costs and is due out…well whenever we deem it acceptable.

Samsung Galaxy S interface looks decidedly familiar

March 23rd, 2010 No comments

Over the past couple of years Samsung’s offering in the mobile market has been particularly underwhelming. Today new images and details emerged of Samsung’s new Android based handset, the Galaxy S. Look familiar to anyone. I suppose they do say that imitation is the greatest form of flattery.
