Recent reports are suggesting that OmniVision Technologies has secured orders from Apple for 5-megapixel camera sensors destined for the next-generation iPhone. OmniVision is expected to supply Apple with 40-45 million sensors in 2010 for the new iPhone.
OmniVision Technologies is expected to see CMOS image sensor (CIS) orders for Apple’s iPhone devices grow to 40-45 million units in 2010 from 20-21 million estimated this year, according to industry sources. The sources said OmniVision has secured 5-megapixel CIS orders for the next-generation iPhone model, which will hit shelves sometime during the second half of 2010.

Over the past week or so trickles of information have been making their way out of industry safe houses regarding the launch of both the long awaited Apple Tablet and the new iPhone. Following last week’s rumours that Taiwan-based manufacturer Foxconn had received orders to build the next iPhone, Toshiba have today announced their latest flash memory module. 64GB on a single NAND flash drive, the largest capacity in the industry. Six months before the iPhone 3GS was announced Toshiba announced their industry leading 32GB NAND chips which made their way into both the iPhone and iPod Touch. Is this a sign of things to come? Since Tesco mobile is a joint venture with the UK’s largest mobile phone network, O2, it should probably come as no surprise that the iPhone will soon be making its way to the UK’s largest supermarket. What may come as a slight surprise is that Tesco have announced that they will be selling the iPhone in the UK in time for Christmas. Tesco’s big for global domination continues.
For many, the iPhone has been as elusive as a week on X-Factor without Louis Walsh saying “you’ve got the looks, you’ve got the voice, your a class act.” In the UK the iPhone has always been tied exclusively to the O2 network however, Orange announced last month that they would be selling the iPhone before Christmas.
