Purported iPad 2 shots direct from CES

January 8th, 2011 No comments

Over the past few days several photographs of third-party iPad 2 cases have hit the internet purportedly illustrating the shape and additional features of the inevitable refresh of Apple’s iPad line later this year.

Well, direct from the Consumer Electronics Show is the above shot published by iLounge and being shown at the show by peripheral company Gopod mobile. The company is showing off the case to illustrate its new foldable charging accessory.

Obviously there’s been nothing official from Apple yet on the iPad 2 and whilst the case shown above is not an iPad 2 and simply a mockup, it certainly reflects the information that has so far hit the internet about the slight re-design, speaker grill at the base and camera.

iPad 2 camera news ahoy!

It’s all but a foregone conclusion that any revision of Apple’s iPad will harbour a FaceTime camera. In fact, if it doesn’t I will shut up shop and forgo my unofficial Apple Fanboy lifestyle.

Truth be told, I’m probably rather safe in the above assertion. Not simply because every other capable iOS 4 device now sports a handy front-facer, alongside the recent introduction of FaceTime for Mac so your BFF’s mug is never out of mind, but more assuredly as as result of the below.

iPad owners the world over have been awaiting the arrival of multi-tasking, folders, AirPlay, AirPrint and the various other delights of a revised operating system since it’s announcement several months ago.

It was widely rumoured that the wait was to be over last Friday, however, it was not be as the discovery of a rather serious WiFi bug plaguing the iPad reduced the iPad owning population to tears.

Well, the wait may now finally be over.

iPad is officially the fastest selling electronic device in history

It’s no secret that the iPad is popular. In fact, since it’s release just six months ago, Apple has sold somewhere in the region of 8.5 million units.

Accordingly, this appears to have had a knock-on effect on PC sales, a recent NPD study suggesting that 13% of iPad users would have purchased a PC is they hadn’t bought an iPad.

Prepare the record books, it looks as though Apple aren’t quite finished yet.

Apple Media Event on 1 September

August 25th, 2010 No comments

It’s that time of year again. Apple’s back to school promotion is coming to an end, no more freebee iPods for students, but that can only mean one thing, the September iPod refresh.

Nothing official from Cupertino yet, but then there never is. It’s all but certain that we’ll see an updated iPod Touch with front facing camera for some Facetime fun-time. What else? Predictions after the break.

Apple opens the most beautiful store in the world

July 6th, 2010 1 comment

As a marked contrast to yesterday’s post, Apple has shown the world how style and elegance is achieved through calculated effortlessness. This week the company opened a new store in Paris which is, I think, one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen. Even if it were devoid of the engineering delights contained therein, this architectural delight would satisfy the soul equally. Exquisite elegance and pictorial perfection past the break. Mid-season hiatus

July 4th, 2010 1 comment

After twenty days of inactivity the Geekly Update is ready to resume normal service.

I apologise to each and every dedicated reader who has visited the site only to be disappointed at the simply disheartening lack of content over the last few weeks. The iPad has made my life so much easier and more enjoyable in so very many ways, relegating my MacBook to but two uses since the 10″ touchable’s arrival. Great, except creating GU content remains a difficulty. Writing Is simple, formatting is simple, even inserting images is relatively easy. Scaling an image to appropriately fit the page however, remains an unsurmountable issue without a better picture editing app. If anybody knows of an iPad app that allows rescaling by number of pixels, please, please do let me know.

May I take this opportunity to apologise unreservedly and assure you that I shall endeavour to ensure that the GU you have come to know and grow increasingly fond of, will not suffer such neglect again. This post was written en-touch, so there really is no excuse.

In the meantime, tell your friends to tune back in. The GU is back on air.
