Google demos Google Voice calls in Gmail
It’s true, it’s finally here! In what seems like natural progression, Google has introduced a new feature to it’s already fully-loaded Gmail service.
First it was an integrated calendar, then documents, then Google Chat and now Google Voice. Users of Gmail in the US can now make phone calls from within their Internet browsers, whilst perusing their emails. Select a contact or dial a number and speak directly into your computer.
Calls to the US and Canada are free and international calls come in at exceptionally competitive rates. 2 cents/minute a Paris anyone?
If you have a Google Voice number, you’ll see a popup in Gmail and you can answer there. Thereafter you can switch from your Gmail to your other phones on your Google Voice account, to continue your call there.
The feature will be rolling out within the next few days to our friends over the pond. No word yet on a UK release but it’s safe to say that it probably won’t be any time soon. Google Voice has been out for some time in then US and there’s not been so much a peep of it’s arrival in olde Blighty.
