Infinity Ward can sleep well knowing that their baby Modern Warfare 2 has sold well. Very well. On day one in the UK alone the game sold 1,230, 588 copies. This number is double that of GTA IV’s first day sales of 631,000, making Modern Warfare 2 the fastest-selling game in UK history.

These numbers are certainly impressive and go some way in setting the benchmark for video game popularity. With sales figures as they stand there is a copy of Modern Warfare 2 in one in 24 households across the UK.

The gross first-day sales figure stands at a whopping £47 million again almost doubling that of the previous record holder GTA IV which stood at £27.2 million.
