PS3 Cross-Game Chat Coming Soon…
Another game dev bumble leads to mass speculation of a long-awaited PS3 feature. This time the leak comes from Naughty Dog dev ReklissAbandon.
It was posted on the official Playstation forums:
“Not to mention that the next PS3 firmware update is going to allow cross game chat. So if players use that instead of in game communication then they would also be able to communicate enemies positions.”
This post was promptly deleted by Sony and when contacted for comment the usual response of not commenting on rumour and speculation was delivered.
PS3 owners have been crying out for this feature for a long long time now, and rightly so. I do not advocate fanboyism but a certain other competitive product featured the service at launch in 2005. The cross-game chat facility on the PS3 has reportedly been ready to ship for some while now but, according to sources earlier this year a certain exceptionally large game studio prohibited its release. I mention no names, but the company in question makes an annual sports title that sounds like ‘Sadden’.
Ps3 owners, be safe in the knowledge that the feature is coming, just no word yet on precisely when. My bet is to keep your eyes peeled for either the new year or around March time.
