FIFA 10 – The Fastest Selling Sports Game Ever

1.7 million copies in one week. No grumbles from EA.
EA is celebrating the biggest European game launch in the company’s history with astronomical first-week sales figures of this years FIFA game.
Not only has the game sold by the bus-load, but it is also enjoying exceptional success from journalists the world over reflected by wonderfully appraising review scores. At the time of writing Metacritic reports an average review score of 92/100 from 24 professional critics. The lowest score the game has yet received is 90/100.
The game has enjoyed all this success in Europe alone, the world’s second largest games market, as it is yet to launch in the US. No-doubt its arrival on foreign soil (yes, I know the game is made by EA Sports Canada every year) will be far less impressive than the impact it has had here. But whilst our North American friends postulate as to why we keep calling it football, may I leave you with this:
- 1 week
- 10 million sessions played online
- more than 155,000 players online simultaneously at peak-times
- SUCCESS!
