PS3 Slim Sales Soar

Sale of Sony’s powerhouse gaming console surge by 1000% following the introduction of the new slimline model.Following the redesign of the PS3 retail sales of the console have increased ten-fold on a week-to-week basis and for the first time in two years Sony actually outsold its main competitors Microsoft and Nintendo.
Offering consumers a new form-factor at a reduced price seems to have been a successful marketing strategy for Sony in as far as console sales are concerned. It is however widely understood that both Microsoft and Sony make a loss on every console sold therefore game sales are of critical importance to the success of either’s game division. Currently the attach rate (number of games bought by a single consumer) for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 remains well ahead of Sony’s however with such a monumental increase in PS3 units sold it will be interesting to see if a shift in this balance will follow suit.
