According to Taiwanese site UDN, Sony have conpleted negotiations and signed production contracts with two companies to begin manufacture of the rumoured PS3 “Slim” even more interesting it that the site suggests that the contracts comewith a delivery date of next month! That’s right, that was not a typo, next month.

With a PS3 price cut expected sometime in the near future, possibly around August, and with existing stock of the 80GB PS3 supposedly dwindling, a July delivery date for the PS3 Slim would appear to makes sense.

Until Sony confirm the model exists, this remains speculation. I would suggest however that it is not entirely unfounded.
