New OS X Update Intensifies Apple Netbook Rumours

For some time users have been attempting to hack their PCs and netbooks to run Apple’s OS X. Recently owners of MSI wind netbooks have been able to achieve the feat of running the OS, impressive in itself for the meager power of a netbook considered Apple’s OS is notoriously demanding on non-optimised hardware.

A recent update to Apple’s OS released this week (10.5.7) has resulted in many of these ‘hackintosh’s’ receiving a far from meagre 33% boost in battery life from 3 hours 45 minutes battery life to over 5 hours.

This information alongside looking at the update itself suggests that Apple has optimised the OS for use with Intel’s Atom processors. Why oh why should Apple make a move like this when they currently manufacture no hardware with the Intel Atom installed? It certainly feels like a move towards the mobile PC market to me.
