VodiPhone
Rumours have been rife for quite some time about AT&T losing their exclusive. licence to distribute the iPhone in the US. Several sources have in fact cited that talks have been arranged and taken place between Apple and Verizon.
Adding further weight to this, and indeed an interesting development in itself comes the news today that Vodafone (majority owner of Verizon) has launched it’s own web portal for UK iPhone users. The portal operates by allowing users to compile their favourite websites and the likes for access from a single location.
It seems odd, if not suspicious to me that a network which does not have the rights to distribute the iPhone (yet) would take steps to accompdate it’s use. It is true that in a recent compilation of statistics of mobile web usage accross the globe, the iPhone OS made up more than 50% of all mobile Internet access (50%!). This may suggest that Vodafone is simply adhering to the handsets popularity but considering the longstanding relationship Vodafone has enjoyed with RIM and the Blackberry my thoughts are that this gesture is a little more than just conformity. As with most of the items from the rumour mill, only time will tell.
Well aware of the fact that this is the first Geekly Update in quite some time, might I issue my apologies. Due to rather more pressing commitments (I know that must be hard to digest), such as a dissertation and revision, post have been few and far between. Hopefully, that has now changed.
