Street Fighter IV Tournament – Fight!
Update: The league table and scores can now be found on the Street Fighter IV page at the tope of the site.
Today saw the first installment to my knowledge of an organised Street Fighter IV tournament within Derby. The Wired Cafe provided the idea, venue, equipment and organisation for the tournament which I can only refer to as a success. There is nothing wrong with sitting at home pulverising prepubescent American Ken’s on Xbox Live or Playstation Network, however it must be said that nothing quite beats sitting directly next to your opponent as both of you battle to the death on increasingly moist controllers.
Today was the first of what will hopefully be a long line of tournaments held every Saturday in the city centre. As I write a tournament table has been created displaying participant’s scores on a points based system for wins, perfects, Ultras and Supers etc which will hopefully flourish into a legitimate gaming league of its own. With the owner of the Cafe’s permission I hope to be able to publish the table to form part of your established Geekly Update from now onwards (whether or not you’re interested).
Knowing my reader base as I do, you are all familiar with both Mr. 2ne and I and should like to draw your attention to the fact that yours truly placed 4th whilst the King of Ken and pile drivers (Rebecca Deegan Che Bar) finished in a well earned 2nd place. I should point out that 2nd was realistically the highest position for the taking today as Lee Holmes who finished hopes quickly shattered all illusions of anybody else taking 1st place essentially teaching the field how Street Fighter is meant to be played… with Vega?! Serious props to Lee who has now become the official benchmark and target of all green eyed competitors.
Thanks again to Rich from The Wired Cafe for organising the event and those to come.
Geek out,
You’ve hit new highs there nice work. Presuming their were 4 people competing yes ?
I too am intrigued as to how many people competed in this magical event.
Site updated accordingly, please see the new Street Fighter page at the top of the blog for full details.
